Awesome kids

Friday was a VERY stressful day for me.  THE WEATHER, as you might have heard, was less than lovely here in the Carolinas.

It started sleeting by 8:00 Friday morning.  And it was colder than a witches heart, which meant that even when it was just raining, it was freezing in places on the roads.

I hate the cold.  I hate any form of precipitation that comes in the winter even more.  (Yes, even snow)

I really hate it when my family has to be out on the road.

Ad that some of my family was going to be flying IN AN AIRPLANE (which I also hate) in the WINTER STORM…..

To say my nerves were shot……

Understatement from HELL>

Hubby and Pootie (along with Pootie’s soccer team) were flying to MIAMI on Friday.  They boarded the plane about 1:40 on Friday afternoon, for a flight that was supposed to leave Charlotte at 2:18.  They left Charlotte about 5:30.  From 1:40 until they left – THREE soccer teams of boys were STUCK sitting on a plane….waiting for a break in the WINTER STORM and waiting in line to DE-ICE.  And waiting and waiting..

My Mom and Daddy were driving home from my aunt and uncles up in Chesapeake, Virginia.  The trip usually takes about 6 hours in the sunshine.  I think it took them about 11 hours.  They were in the worst part of all the storm as they drove across the state.  There were tons of car accidents…

So.  By the time everyone was safely where they should be on Friday night.  I was a basket case.  Swear.

Bubba always creeps into our room at night so I didn’t even bother trying to get him into his bed.  And my dogs, KNOW when Hubby is gone – they know what that means…..THEY CAN GET ON THE BED!!!

This is Shelby, not happy that I’m snapping pictures, with the Bubba already asleep with his bowl of cheese-its in his lap…..

And since everyone was safe and sound, you’d think that all was well in the world.

WRONG!

In the middle of the night I woke up with a rip roaring MIGRAINE headache.  I was throwing up, which if you’ve ever had a migraine, you know, just makes the pain even worse!  It was so bad.  With Bubba being in my bed and he woke up about 3:30 because he heard me crying and yacking.  Poor kid.  He just sat there patting my back.  About 4 a.m. Bubba went down the hall to wake up Crash.  Crash then proceeded to help take care of me.  Every 15 minutes Crash got up and went down to the microwave to reheat the “bean bag” to put on my head.  Bubba stayed in the bed watching TV and patting my back.  I was up and down yacking….Bubba finally fell back to sleep about 6:30. Crash went back to bed at 7:00.  At that point, I was just dry heaving and sleeping for about 20 minutes at a time.  Lola woke up at 8:00 and took over for Crash on bean bag duty and then jumped in to take care of Bubba when he woke up.

I slept until about 12:30 when I was finally able to start sipping on my beloved diet dr pepper.  My hubby had been on and off the phone all morning with Lola, and I guess one of them called in the calvary, because mom and dad showed up with beef stew for dinner.

Yesterday was a total BLUR.  I cannot tell you how impressed I am by my awesome kids and how they helped take care of me, and each other, thru a wretched day!

This morning, I woke up ready to conquer the world.  (Sort of) and we went to breakfast at their favorite spot, Greg’s BBQ (yes northern friends, they cook breakfast that is NOT BBQ)

My two nurses….aren’t they so dang cute!?

And with the back patter…..

Bubba’s breakfast feast….half order of french toast with sausage links, part of my omelette and hashbrowns, helping of grits and half a biscuit WITH gravy.  He eats until he puts himself into a comma.

Hubby and Pootie will be home tonight.  I’m trying to NOT get all worked up about them flying.  The weather is not a factor to send me over the edge…..

Next time – I’m taking a xanex.

Oh Happy Day!

Right now, I am sitting at my kitchen table multi-tasking.  I love it when all the pieces fall into place and I can do this…..the biggest piece….BUBBA and if he is content playing or demanding my attention.

Today – he is VERY content.  WHY?  Well – check this out…..it’s January 9th about 2:30 in the afternoon and it is 67*!!!  Don’t believe me?  Here it is – right off of Weather.com

So, I get to sit here at the kitchen table, laundry being rotated in and out of the washer and dryer…folded into baskets, doing some soccer club work, and have the back door wide a&^%%$ open while Bubba plays outside!

He is so happy on days like this .

Yes – he is barefoot and totally jacked up on his toes.  Who wants to play in the sand with shoes, socks AND BRACES on?

oh my gosh – our backyard looks HORRIBLE.  It always does in the winter time so I don’t know why I feel the need to comment on it – but it is just so gross.  I am ready for SPRING!!!! 69 days 4 hours away, if you are counting!!!!!  (I know that because I just added a countdown to spring widget over on the top right hand side!)

If you are in the South – hope you are enjoying this beautiful day as much as we are!

A bullet point kind of day

Ya’ll know I love me some bullet points.  So here is the first bullet point post for 2013.

  • Have ya gotten used to writing/typing 2013?  I have not.  It will probably be into March before I can do it and not to MAKE myself write/type a 3 instead of a 2.
  • Bubba had his first dentist appointment last week.  Again, a trip to a doctor that he saw absolutely no point in going. He (again) said, “I’m fine-a.  NO need to go, MOOOMMMM!”  Blah Blah – he brushes the “oogalies”(that’s what we call sugar bugs) out of his mouth just fine and he doesn’t need anyone to tell him different.  (his words, not mine)  While he WOULD NOT let the little gal use the fancy tooth brush to clean his teeth – she did let her use a regular Buzz Lightyear tooth brush.  He told her she could do the other next time.  They put the flouride on with a regular brush and he let them do the spit sucker thing “just fine”.  WHY THE HELL THAT DID NOT BOTHER HIM is beyond me!!!

  • The Christmas decorations are all put up.  House always feels empty after doing that.  And this year was the LONGEST we’ve EVER left the decorations up!
  • I am so happy for my dear friend, Maria.  She is pain free after a really long illness and lots of surgeries and hospital stays.  I am so thrilled that she has turned the corner and will be back to her uber active self soon.  She is truly one of the most beautiful women I know, her heart and determination have always amazed me…..all I have left to say to her is SET THE DATE!
  • The big kids are “this close” to being half way thru the school year.   Exams start this coming Friday.
  • The other night Hubby and I took Bubba out walking.  I love taking him out when it’s dark and letting him run around.  Just seems like such a kid thing to do….anyway. Bubba looks up at the sky and begins to recite “Star Light, Star Bright” and it was just the cutest thing EVER!  So he gets done and I asked him what he wished for and this is what he said VERBATIM.  “I wish that my brothers would play FIFA with me on the playstation.  And I wish I could go to bed.”    How dang cute is that?  Hubby and I told Pootie and Crash they ought be be ashamed of themselves for always tricking him out of playing.  (I get it, he’s 3 it’s a PS3, it’s a dang complicated game…but come on…..he WISHES he could play with ya’ll!)
  • My boss, Froggie, gave me the cutest gift the other day…..See, I’m the QUEEN.  Froggie and Chip gave me that name several years ago because I was, well, demanding, about certain things years ago while working at a soccer tourney.  (Not bitchy, although Chip probably disagrees – WHATEVER!) Anyways – it’s the cutest little carved word to sit out on my desk Smile  I love it

That’s really all I have for today.  We had a great holiday.  Together.  My favorite.  My brother actually has been home on a leave which has been awesome for him. We’re not resolution people.  But I am working on my list of things I want to work on list for me.  I’m not ready to share all of that just yet.  I hope that your holiday was amazing and everything that you needed it to be.  (notice I said NEEDED, not WANTED).
